Helpful Tips On Taking Home Your Baby Bird
1. Keep all birds out of direct heat or drafts (such as putting the cage in the window
for sun, in front of a fan or an air conditioner.)
2. The Teflon coating on cookware (if burned) is toxic to birds (the fumes can be
fatal to birds.)
3. Anything not healthy for you to eat is not healthy for your bird (soda, coffee,
candy, gum… etc.)
4. Your bird’s diet should consist of 1/3 seeds and nuts, 1/3 fruits and veggies, and
1/3 healthy people food every day.
5. Keeping your bird’s nails and flight feathers trimmed is better and safer for
your bird.
6. Fruits and veggies can be given in many different ways (fresh, frozen, dried,
canned, and cooked.) If your bird does not like something one way, TRY IT
ANOTHER WAY!!
7. Fresh fruits and veggies can be left in the cage overnight-cooked/frozen veggies
or food must be removed after about an hour.
8. Veggies and fruits should always be fresh and rinsed off in water before being
served to your bird (do not give the pits or seeds to your bird.)
9. Remove the grating from the bottom of the cage so u can sprinkle food down
there for your baby bird.
10. Avocado and chocolate are toxic to birds!!!!
11. When purchasing a cage, it should be large enough for your bird to fit in
comfortably (with wings stretched out along with his toys and essentials.)
12. Interesting toys and varied food items are the best ways to combat boredom
when your bird is spending time alone in his cage.
13. When first bringing home your baby bird it is not a good idea to have him out
and playing with you constantly. In order for the bird to eat properly and to learn
to occupy himself when u are not around, he must learn to remain in his cage
sometimes. One hour in the cage out of the cage. This is a good rule to follow!
